2013 looks to be another exciting year for Kovler Diabetes Center. Each year Kovler looks for opportunities to engage the community including educational seminars, diabetes awareness workshops, and family events that directly supports causes that largely coincides with the Diabetes Center’s mission: to provide the key care and resources to all individuals with diabetes. Here is a sneak peek of some of these exciting upcoming events!
Coming soon on February 28 is the James C. Tyree Foundation Event, Living Through Giving, a cocktail reception and fundraising event that genially supports diabetes care at the Kovler Diabetes Center, and honors the legacy of our dear friend, Chicago humanitarian and visionary Jim Tyree. Last year, Kovler was honored as one of three recipients of a generous grant from the Foundation. As a result of the Foundation’s generosity, the University of Chicago’s James Tyree Program for Diabetes Care and Innovation now aims to broaden the scope of diabetes care and education and clinical research programs. The Kovler Diabetes Center has been extremely grateful for the Tyree Foundation’s ongoing support, and the Kovler team is very excited to showcase the new Jim Tyree Diabetes Resource Library in the coming months. Please join us on February 28 to celebrate Jim Tyree’s legacy and support the wonderful work of the Foundation. For more information regarding the event or to RSVP, go to http://www.jamestyreefoundation.org/living_through_giving.htm.
Kovler is thrilled to once again partner with American Diabetes Association (ADA) on their Diabetes EXPO on April 13 at the McCormick Place. The ADA Diabetes EXPO is a free, educational event for the community on diabetes management and prevention under one roof. Features include free health screenings, cooking demonstrations, and service exhibitors catered to public interest. Do not miss out on this opportunity to learn more about how to keep you and your family healthy—click here to find out more about the ADA Diabetes Expo!
Stay tuned for news regarding our signature event, Kovler Diabetes Center’s 7th Annual Living Well event! This year, Kovler will be partnering with the University of Chicago Urban Health Initiative (UHI), home to one of the largest diabetes education programs on the south side of Chicago. Though the Living Well event largely focuses on providing information and resources for patients living with Type 2 diabetes, we encourage our Type 1 diabetes patients to join us for a morning of healthy eating, education, a little exercise, and a little inspiration, too! As if that is not exciting enough, guest speakers for Living Well in the recent years included Bill Campbell, best-selling author and celebrity Dr. Ian Smith, and former Chicago Bears player Mike Pyle! Do not miss out on this invaluable opportunity to learn about how you can take charge of your diabetes care, and stay connected with Kovler Diabetes Center!
But this isn’t all—to see Kovler’s complete calendar of upcoming events, click here! It has been an incredible joy and honor for the Kovler Diabetes Center to be a part of the local community, but these efforts would not have been able to materialize without your support, so thank you, and we hope to see you soon at our next event!
