The University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center takes pride in the talented team of providers who strive every day to offer the most comprehensive care to our patients, and constantly support our mission to expand diabetes care and resources. Michele Stewart, LPN, is an invaluable member of the Kovler team.
Here, Michele connects with Peggy Hasenauer, MS, RN, Kovler's Executive Director to share her interests, insights, and passion for her work.


At the Kovler Diabetes Center, experts are committed to providing patients with access to cutting-edge treatments and therapies. Kovler's clinical research program, lead by Tiffany Grant, NP, FNP, empowers individuals with diabetes to take advantage diabetes clinical trials at Kovler that can provide critical insights in diabetes management.

 

Currently, Kovler researchers are conducting a clinical research study with children to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a medication approved by the FDA for treatment of Type 2 diabetes in adults. Those who are 10 to 17 years of age and have Type 2 diabetes may qualify to be in this clinical research study.



On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the Chicago Center for Diabetes Translation Research (CCDTR) will present the 9th Annual Chicago Diabetes Day. This prestigious meeting serves as a forum for basic and clinical investigators, clinicians, and pharmaceutical industry personnel in Chicago and the Midwest. Speakers from the University of Chicago and other institutions around the U.S. will discuss various topics in basic and clinical research. 


On May 10th, The University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center and the Urban Health Initiative will be host the 8th Annual Living Well with Diabetes event at the University of Chicago Quadrangle Club in Hyde Park from 10 am until 1 pm. Speakers include Tony award-winning actor Ben Vereen and Kovler experts, including Celeste Thomas, MD and psychologist Tina Drossos, PhD. Golden Globe winning actress Ms. Regina Taylor will emcee the event and will represent the Kovler Leadership Board. Ms. Taylor is an active member of this prestigious University Board, and also serves as Kovler's Community Engagement Advisor. She will interview Mr. Vereen on stage and interact with the audience following Mr. Vereen's greatly-anticipated presentation.

FRIENDS FOR THE CURE

After months of planning and anticipation, Mardi for a Cure was a smashing success! Hosted by Friends for the Cure, a committee of over 80 individuals dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes, the Mardi for a Cure event raised over $325,000 to support five crucial research projects at the University of Chicago Medicine Kovler Diabetes Center.
