Official online newsletter for the University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center
Here at the Kovler Diabetes Center, we are fortunate to have many talented and devoted diabetes care professionals on our team. Two of these individuals are Dianne Deplewski, MD, who has been caring for children with diabetes and other endocrine conditions at the University of Chicago for more than 15 years, and Julia Socke, RD, LDN, CDE, who has been part of the Kovler team since February of 2012.

We are pleased to announce that beginning in August, Dr. Deplewski and Julia will be expanding their clinical hours to see patients on Mondays at the Kovler Diabetes Center in Hyde Park.
In July, the University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center hosted the second conference in North America for individuals and families with monogenic diabetes, which was attended by almost 200 children and adults from throughout the world, followed by a Continuing Medical Education meeting for 120 physicians and health care professionals.

Peggy Hasenauer, MS, RN and Executive Director of Kovler said, "We were so humbled by the opportunity to host an event that educates and inspires others, and we were honored by the attendance of so many families and medical professionals."
Back to school season is a stressful time for every family, but perhaps even more so for families with children who have diabetes. Whether your child is heading to kindergarten or entering their freshman year of college, here are some helpful tips to navigate the legal, logistical, and social challenges that come with starting a new school year.
In the recent months, Kovler has had many exciting opportunities in the community, these ranging from sharing with families expert tips on diabetes management to advocating support for diabetes care and research. Kovler is immensely grateful for our welcoming community, and hopes to continue our efforts to bring to our community members the most quality resources in diabetes in the future. Some of the community events that Kovler has been involved in are 2013 JDRF Family Day, ADA Summer Camps, the University of Chicago's Farmers' Market, and the annual ADA EXPO.

Dr. Louis Philipson shares with InTransit teens and their families expert tips on managing diabetes at Kovler's most recent teen event at Toyota Park.

InTransit teen, Zachary Brouwer, cheers on the Chicago Fire team as they take the winning lead!
